Interview with Riot Girl : Mai Mai from Red Dogs !

Age: I' a half cat, so the age? Who knows?.

Mai Mai is the guitarist and backup-vocalist in the Japanese all-girl punk band Red Dogs!

Can you remember when your interest for music started?

I liked the sound of the music box when I was a baby. I cried together with the music.

When/what did/made you decide to start playing/singing music ?

I felt like knowing music more deeply after I heard the music of The Beatles.

What made you choose the instruments you play? or what made you want to sing in the way/style you do?

All heroes of rock have a guitar. And everyone wants to do the same. don't you?

How did you learn to play your instrument /sing like you do?

I learned a guitar by myself. I often played Jimmy Page.

.Do you remember the first song you learned to play/sing to? Which one was it?

I saw her standing there.E7,A7,B7...

Which musicians has had the most impact on you ? Why?

John Lennon/He taught a meaning of the freedom. He is punk.

Do you have any musicians you have learned from?

Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix ,Pete Townshend, Robert Fripp, Crispin Gray, Buzzcocks... I'm learning from those many favourite guitarists. And the guitarist in which I'm very influential at present is Shinji Wajima of a band [ningenisu].

What does playing music means to you?

When a star dies, I think it's very similar to the feeling to explode . and The star is reborn shine again. =Supernova

Can you remember and describe your very first instrument? And what it ment to you?

Harmonica? and I was learning to play the piano.

Are you ever influenced by old records & tapes?

I like records and tapes.

Who are your favourite musicians?

The Beatles is my God. Shinji Wajima is my guitar hero now. and Band of progressive rock.

When did you know that music was one of your missions in life?

I also liked drawing a picture, but it take everything at the heart out too much. Music was  my relief and balance.

How and when did you get your band together?

It connected with BIBIBI by a radio wave of a net.

How would you describe your music style to other people?

Coolness and passion and cat. Meow.

I know you have played alot of gigs, does it ever happen that you get nervous before a show?

I don't become too nervous recently. Is it a good thing?

What advice would you give to beginners who wants to start a music career?

An important one is the first impulse. Continuing having it all the time.

What kind of concerts do you like to go to yourself?

Progressive rock of change of rhythm.

Have you ever gotten rejected by venues because of the kind of music you play?

There were no such things.

As a girl, have you experienced being underestimate musically?

Maybe, but when seeing our live, prejudice disappears.

Is it difficult for you to balance your music-career with your personal-life?

Isn't that time to work?
