Oriane is the insanely good guitar player in the swedish punk band Fuck Frankie!

With her monster-cool dreads and  wildly good guitar skills , shes a total riot girl!

Can you remember when your interest for music started?
and what made you wanna start playing music/sing?

I grew up listening to music at home, my parents used to listen to Chilean folklore and rock and my dad was into 70`s punk, rock and reggae. Besides that, my parents had a lot of friends who played music .So music has always been a big part of my life.
Naturally, I`ve always been into music, but it was one particular ?halelujah?- moment that made me wanna start playing in a band.
My parents had a friend who was into Swedish punk, and when I was 13 years old I was standing in his living room going through his records when he pulls out an Ebba Grn record and puts it in the stereo. There was no doubt: I felt instantly in love with punkrock! That is the moment I recall being the first time I thought about starting a band! But first, I had to learn to play an instrument.

My godmother Toni Lindfors( sounds kinda gangsta, haha) knew how to play the guitar and is one of the coolest persons I have the privilege to know( in the early 80?s she marched from Stockholm to Paris alongside thousands of other people, a peacemarch, playing and singing all the way- if that is not hardcore as fuck, I don`t know what is). I turned to her and she taught me how to play the guitar when I was 13 and has been a huge influence, support and inspiration ever since.

What made you choose the instruments you play?or what made you want to sing in the way/style you do?

The same guy who showed me the beauty of swedish punk gave my dad an old and crappy acoustic guitar around when I was about 13-14 years old. I simply started with what was availeble -my dads crappy guitar :)

How did you learn to play your instrument /sing like you do?

Most of all, I?ve learned a lot from playing and jamming with others - like my talented godmother, my sister who sings and other muscicians and guitarist I?ve met and played with through the years.
My good friend Josef, Lisa and Mathilda (Jsses and Gustav are awesome too of course) from our band Fuck Frankie and many, many more.

Do you remember the first song you learned to play/sing to?
Which one was it?

It was ?get back? by the Beatles

Which  musicians has had the most impact on you ?

I?ll have to say cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez who is an excellent poet and guitarist. I grew up listening to his music and he inspired me to play the guitar in my ?early years?
- and still does!

Do you have any musicians you have learned from?

Olle Linder, a great swedish guitarist and muscician
who taught me a lot when I was helping out with the music in a theater ensamble when I was about 14-15 years old

What does playing music means to you?

This is going to sound superextracheesy but basicly everything. I?m sure I?m a little less of a pain in the ass to people around me because of it :p

Can you remember and describe your very first instrument?
And what it ment to you?

It was that crappy old guitar I was telling you about earlier, i even put some ugly stickers on it. They never came off and I still have the guitar somewhere in my basement, haha!

Are you ever influenced by old records & tapes?

Yeah sure, I?ve always been into old school SKA and reggae such as skatalites, Bunny wailer, toots and the maytals and burning spear.

Who are your favorite musicians?

Chilean singers and muscicians such as Victor Jara,Violetta Parra, Inti-illimani and cuban singer -songwriter Silvio Rodriguez. And of course: The Distillers, Misfits, Sublime, Rancid, Swingin utters, The filaments , The Clowns and nordic bands like Turbonegro, Trubbel,Attentat, the Sounds, the Hellacopters and Honningbarna.

When did you know that music was one of your missions in life?

When I discovered that I was a complete failiure in gymclass and kickass at playing instruments!

Which band have you played in / Are you  playing in?

Right now I play leadguitar in Fuck Frankie and drums/percussion in Elvira Bira med full fart. Some of my previous bands are: Alla?Ska, No Control, Svarta Stjrnan, Skalicious.

How would you describe your music style to other people?

I know you have played alot of gigs , does it  ever happen that you  get nervous before a show?

Yeah sure! Not as much as when I first started playing in a band when I was about 17-18 years old, but it happens

What advice would you give to beginners who wants to start a music career?

Stay humlble and open minded, play whatever you wanna play as long as you?re having fun!

What kind of concerts do you like to go to yourself?

Usually smaller pub-gigs, but i really enjoy visiting music festivals such as Roskilde, Augistibuller and Tyrolenpunk!

Have you ever gotten rejected by venues because of the kind of music you play?

Haha I have no idea!

As a girl , have you experienced beeing underestimatet musically?

Oh sure, story of my life! As a girl I usually have to prove myself twice as good as guys, I can not remember how many times random dudes have told me ? you?re a good guitarist considering you?re a girl?, soooo many people who are surprised by the facit that I don?t sing but play instruments and all theese know-it- all misogynist assholes(pardon my french) who often feel the urge to tell me how, Where and when to play , how I should look like and act on stage as they also tell me they are better.

That was a loooong sentence!

Is it difficult for  you  to balance your music-career with your personal-life?

No, I have a very understanding partner!

What is your best music related memory?

There are so many, but one of them is when we shared the stage with G.B.H 1,5 years ago on Debaser strand!

Listening to your  records (Fuck Frankie)  , I can hear you have your own guitar sound  , is this something you have worked hard on to achieve?

As Lisa said: somehow, no matter who of us comes up with a song, it always sounds ?Fuck Frankie?

And last but not least , what  goals do you wanna reach with your music?

To have fun, be creative and reach out to other with our nusic!

Thanks to Orian for the interview!
